COMMUNIQUE NO. 1

Comrades:

This Sunday, American Woman by Susan Choi will be reviewed prominently in
the New York Times Book Review. The book has been getting amazing reviews
from around the country, and we'd like to bring all this good publicity to a
head. So I'm mobilizing Susan Choi's Army (SCA) for a coordinated strike on
amazon.com this Monday, October 6.

I have reason to believe that The Man (or, at least, influential people in
the publishing industry) will be watching the book's sales very closely
early next week, and we want The Man to be impressed. No, not
impressed-awed, astonished, even frightened. Plus, there's the fun of
watching American Woman climb the charts hour by hour.

Please, if you're considering buying a copy of American Woman, buy it from
amazon this Monday. If you haven't read it yet, you'll want to see what all
the noise is about. If you already own a copy, remember: the holiday
gift-giving season is right around the corner. But, of course, you never
need an excuse to give a great book to a friend or relative.

One more thing: please forward this email to anyone you know who tends to
buy excellent books. Tell them American Woman is an unusually excellent book
and suggest that they take part in our coordinated strike on Monday. I've
